Cognitive Overload is Costing You Investors - Here’s How to Fix It

The Harbor Access team has seen hundreds, if not thousands, of investor presentations. One common mistake that seems to transcend time and trends is overloaded, bloated slides. With attention spans shrinking in today’s fast paced market, keeping your presentation clear and focused is more important than ever.

Here are three tips to reduce cognitive overload and make your message stand out:

  1. Keep to 1 Idea: Each slide should focus on a single, clear takeaway. Too much text or multiple competing points can dilute your message. Aim for concise bullet points or key data highlights that investors can absorb quickly.

  2. Think of Flow: Your presentation should tell a logical, compelling story. Organize your slides so that each one naturally builds on the previous, guiding investors through your company’s value proposition, growth strategy, and financials without confusion or redundancy.

  3. Use Graphics Wisely: Visuals can be powerful tools - when used correctly. Charts, graphs, and images should enhance understanding, not clutter the slide. Avoid unnecessary design elements and ensure data visuals are clear, labeled, and easy to interpret at a glance.
