Navigating Social Media Cashtags
If you’re not sharing news with cashtags (a stock symbol prefaced with a dollar sign such as $AAPL) on Twitter, Reddit or TikTok, you’re missing out on the upside of social media trading. Cashtags are great for researching conversations around a stock and a great way to learn about investor sentiment. Actively monitoring and collecting information on Twitter, Reddit -even TikTok - can help you enhance messaging.

The average spend for Valentine’s Day in 2022 was $175.41 (up 6.5% on last year), but well below the rate of inflation for the common presents. Personal experience suggests that distribution has some very fat tails. To find meaningful and often entertaining statistics on market performance, Richard usually pulls “The Handbook of Equity Market Anomalies” by Len Zacks. The chapter on Seasonal Anomalies goes back to 1897, and explains the January Effect, the January Small Cap Effect, the predictive power of January as a barometer for the rest of the year, Sell-in-May-and-go-away, Same Month, Holiday Effects, Sell on Rosh Hashanah & buy on Ramadan, Day-of-the-week, and the longer political cycles in the US. They even have studies on weather (sun, rain, snow, moon and stars). Morning Sunshine is apparently linked to a feeling of optimism, especially in the stock markets in the Northeast. “Own it, don’t trade it” is Richard’s mantra.
