Tips for Making the Most of a Podcast Appearance

Appearing on a podcast is one of the fastest ways to get noticed and increase your company’s visibility. But to achieve that goal, you must know how to make the most out of your interview.

Here are five tips to keep in mind:

  1. Due Diligence: Research the show, and listen in to a few episodes to get a better understanding of the host and format so you can tailor your message.

  2. Key Talking Points: Prepare and practice delivering key messages in a story-like fashion. But be careful not to just write and read off of a script - this will come across as inauthentic and turn investors away.

  3. Make it Engaging: Effective communication is a two-way dialogue. Listen and respond thoughtfully, and try to ensure the conversation flows naturally. A bit of laughter always helps too.

  4. Practice the Conclusion: Odds are, you’ll have the opportunity to sum up your talking points and broader messages you’ve imparted earlier in the conversation. Before the call, pair up with a colleague to succinctly reiterate these points in a few ways. This ensures your wrap-up feels spontaneous and unscripted.

  5. Prepare for Follow-ups: Your conversation will undoubtedly make an impression on listeners - make sure they have a way to contact you with any questions after the podcast is live. You never know - a future investor may be listening in!
