As Richard Leighton reminded us this week, 2022 for most market participants has been the equivalent of Queen Elizabeth’s famous “annus horribilis”. In 1992, against a steady stream scandalous tabloid fodder, the Queen famously endured the marital separation of three of her four children, the release of Princess Diana’s biography and the catastrophic fire at her beloved Windsor Palace, where she was buried.

Summer so far, is looking quite different from last year: air travel is a mess; prices are sky high, and the market is still in a wrenching period of instability. And yet the act of taking personal time has never been more essential than at this very moment. As emails bounce back with ‘out of the office’ notifications, this the perfect time to log off from reality and give yourself a much-deserved break.
